DAY HIKE PERSONAL EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST
If you’re planning on spending a day out on the trails with friends or family, it’s important to bring all the hiking essentials to keep you comfortable and safe. What you need for your hike differs depending on the distance and time you’ll take. This hiking gear list aims to put forward a solid base for those planning a day hike of around five to ten hours.
DAYPACK

Choose a comfortable daypack with enough capacity to carry your gear and snacks.

Bring along a waterproof backpack cover if you are trekking in the tropics where rain is unpredictable
HYDRATION

Water bottles or hydration reservoir (aim for at least 2 liters of water)

Water filter or purification tablets if you plan to refill from natural sources.
FOOTWEAR

Sturdy and comfortable hiking boots or trail shoes (broken-in).

Moisture-wicking socks (wool or synthetic).
SNACKS
CLOTHING

High-energy snacks (granola bars, nuts, dried fruits, etc.)

Packed lunch if lunch is not provided in your tour package.

Lightweight and quick-drying hiking shirt.

Waterproof and windproof outer shell or rain jacket.

Hiking pants or convertible pants/shorts.
FIRST AID KIT

Blister treatment (moleskin or blister pads).

HOW TO DRESS COMFORTABLY FOR YOUR HIKE

Wear lightweight clothing like t-shirts and track pants.

Wear covered walking/hiking shoes with good grip. (Sports shoe is adequate).

Waterproof backpack to store your items. (If not, buy a rain cover for your backpack.

A small lightweight towel.
